Why Albatross?
With the largest wingspan in the animal kingdom, the albatross is known to venture across vast geographical distances in search of food and deliver it safely back home to its nest.
The albatross utilises a dynamic soaring flying technique – a usage of energy by crossing multiple boundaries of air masses containing different velocities in nature. Utilising the winds of nature; it “hops” island by island, wave by wave. This allows the albatross to soar far and wide by using natural obstacles to lengthen its journey in a sustainable manner.
The mythology of the albatross is vast and deep. It is the most legendary of all birds. Sailors during the Age of Discovery acknowledged its power by believing that the act of shooting or harming an albatross to be disastrous. Many sailors who caught them mistakenly would also free them again, believing that albatrosses were the souls of lost sailors.
